Dr. Ashok Kapoor to head Apic corporation's Silicon Valley Office

Dr Raj Dutt, Chairman and CEO of APIC Corporation and PhotonIC Corp. of Los Angeles, CA, announced the appointment of Dr. Ashok Kapoor as Director of Silicon Valley Operations for APIC Corporation. "Dr. Kapoor is one of the world's leading electronic gurus, "says Dr. Dutt. "As we expand our research into integrating photonics and electronics into monolithic or heterogeneous systems on a single chip he will be a vital resource on the electronics side of the equation working out of our Silicon Valley office."

Since 1981 Dr. Kapoor has been involved with cutting edge semiconductor technologies at Fairchild Research Laboratories, National Semiconductor, Hewlett Packard, LSI LOGIC and most recently SuVolta, Inc, where he was Chief Scientist. Earlier he had co-founded DSM Solutions funded by Kleiner Perkins and August Capital to develop ultra-low power VLSI (very-large-scale integration) technology that is the process of creating integrated circuits by combining millions of transistors into a single chip. DSM changed its name to SuVolta, Inc in 2009. He is the inventor of the polysilicon gate complimentary JFET (junction field-effect transistor) technology. He has coauthored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed technical journals, co-edited a book published by the IEEE press and is listed as a co-inventor of over 100 U.S. patents. Dr. Kapoor is a member of the IEEE Electron Devices Society, Material Research Society, and Sigma Xi. He was the recipient of the Inventor of the Year Award from LSI Logic in 1995.

"I believe the combining of electronics with photonics into a single working component to be the way of the future" states Dr. Kapoor "This combined technology helps computer processors consume up to 90% less energy and run up to 60% faster--a product that eventually could be used broadly by chip makers in devices like servers at great cost savings."Born in Allahabad, India, Dr Kapoor received a B Tech. degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, India, in 1973, and an M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH, in 1979 and 1981.APIC Corporation is headquartered at 5800 Uplander Way, Culver City, CA 90230. Tel: (310) 642-7975 ext. 125 with offices in Washington D.C.; Albany, NY; Boston, MA; Palo Alto, CA; Melbourne, FL and advanced Photonics laboratory facilities in Honolulu, HI. APIC Corporation is a world leader and supplier to the US Military in the development of photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
