Eco environments delivers biggest solar PV project in the north of England

A leading renewable energy company has completed the biggest roof-based solar PV project in the North of England.

The 1077 Hyundai solar panels were installed by Liverpool-based Eco Environments at the Warrington site of temperature controlled storage and distribution company Cold Move.

The 250kWp system at the firm’s base in Golborne is 100 metres in length – covering almost half of the company’s giant warehouse roof.

The scheme, part of Cold Move’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint by 25% by 2020, will see carbon emissions reduce by 108,658 tonnes a year and generate 199,740 kWh of electricity annually.

The project, which was funded in full by Belvedere Energy Investments, is the latest in a line of commercial projects captured by Eco Environments.

The company designs, installs and commissions technologies including solar PV, wind turbines, solar thermal, air source heat pumps and energy efficient lighting.

David Hunt, Eco Environments’ Sales and Marketing Director, said: “This is a flagship scheme for Eco Environments and firmly establishes us as one of the leading renewable energy companies for the business community.

“We are witnessing ever increasing interest from businesses in exploring ways in which they can become more energy efficient and tackle the nightmare of crippling energy costs which are now one of the biggest concerns for business owners.”

James Woodward, Cold Move’s Managing Director, said: “We are delighted with the installation by Eco Environments and are already experiencing the environmental and financial benefits of the system.

“We will be seeking out further opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint with the introduction of low emission cars and potentially a wind turbine at one of our sites.”

Eco Environments increased its turnover dramatically to £6.4million in the last financial year – compared to £1.3million the previous year.

The company, which has its head office in Liverpool and regional offices in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Carlisle and St Asaph, has also seen its headcount increase from 12 to 50 during the past 12 months.
