ReNew Power commissions its first wind project, reaffirming its commitment towards Clean Power for India



In keeping with its commitment to become the leading renewable energy producer in India, ReNew Wind Power Pvt. Ltd., an independent power producer, recently commissioned its first wind farm project at Jasdan, Rajkot district, Gujarat. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi graced the occasion and inaugurated the 25.2 MW wind farm at Jasdan.  This facility comprises of 12 units of Suzlon S88 wind turbines with 2.1 MW capacity each. Construction of the project began in October 2011 and was completed in March 2012. The project is selling its output under a under long-term PPA contract to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (23.1 MW), and the remaining output to Philips India (2.1 MW). The project demonstrates ReNew Power’s vision in recognizing the challenge of climate change, and its responsibility to combat it.

After commissioning the first wind mill of the farm, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Narendra Modi said, “It gives me immense pleasure to welcome ReNew Power to Gujarat, our state has been a dominant player in the wind energy market and we look forward to have more and more projects and investments in the state to help build sustainable power source for energy starved India.”Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Sumant Sinha, Founder Chairman and CEO, ReNew Power said, “It gives us great pride to partner with the Government of Gujarat with its far reaching vision for wind potential in the state. We thank Shri Modi for extending his support to ReNew Power and encouraging us by gracing today’s occasion.”He also added, “With this project we further establish the vision of rapidly expanding our footprint in the growing Indian wind energy market. This on-time commissioning of our first wind power project underlines our dedication to power growth through green and sustainable energy solutions and in mitigating climate change.”

Currently, ReNew Power has several wind projects under development as well. The newly commissioned, Jasdan wind farm is also expected to qualify as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project under the Kyoto Protocol, which will add to the financial viability of the project.ReNew Power’s project provides both economic as well as environmental benefits. ReNew Power is also exploring the opportunity of diversifying into alternative energy sources such as biomass and hydro apart from Solar and Wind in the coming years.
