A total of 127 coal and gas based thermal power plants were accorded environmental clearances during the last three years. The total capacity of these 127 power plants is 1, 30,623.20 MW. The state-wise details are given at Annexure-I and Annexure-II
This was disclosed by the Minister of State (I/C) for Environment and Forests Smt. Jayanthi Natarajan in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister added that Out of the 127 power plants accorded environmental clearances in the last three years, 105 are coal based and 22 are gas based power plants.
Smt. Natarajan said that A total of 31 coal and gas thermal power plants with a total generation capacity of 38,997 MW are pending with the Ministry for environmental clearance as on 30.04.2012.
